Common Questions

Things
to know

We answered the most common questions all around our crowdfunding and our games.

Crowdfunding

No worries, that email (“Je investering in Are you Hooked? is niet voltooid.”) gets sent by mistake in this case, and it’s nothing to be alarmed about. Support for pledges from outside the Netherlands is still very new on the platform, so there are occasionally a few small hiccups in the system. This is more common for investments from Belgium (BE) or Germany (DE). It’s a known issue and thus a sometimes expected part of the process, not a sign that something has gone wrong with your money.

If the money is already off your account, it actually means your transaction is still being processed. It can take up to 48 hours to show up on the campaign page.

If it still hasn’t appeared after 48 hours, please contact CrowdAboutNow directly. They’re best placed to look into it and help you quickly.

If you get that email but the money is still in your account, wait until the next day. If nothing has changed by then, follow the instructions in the email and redo the investment process. No worries, you will not be charged twice.

If you have any questions along the way, feel free to contact either CrowdAboutNow or us directly. We are happy to help!

For payment issues (a failed transaction, trouble completing checkout, etc.), please contact CrowdAboutNow directly. As the platform processing the payment, they’re able to look into the technical details on their end and help you fastest.

You’re of course also welcome to reach out to us directly if you’re not sure who to contact, or if you’d rather go through us first. We’re happy to help point you in the right direction.

If we don’t reach the minimum funding goal by the end of the campaign, the campaign is considered unsuccessful and all pledges are automatically refunded. You’ll have your money back in your account within a week, no action needed on your part.

Absolutely, please do! Word of mouth is one of the biggest drivers of a successful campaign, and every share, forward, or “hey, check this out” from you helps us reach more people who’d love Hooked as much as you do. Feel free to share our campaign page, tag us on social media, or just tell people about it over dinner. The more of our community that gets involved, the stronger our launch will be.

Nothing’s wrong. This is a known technical delay on the platform’s end, not an issue with your payment.

New pledges can take a little while to appear, and how long depends mostly on the payment method you used:

  • WERO / iDEAL pledges are usually the fastest, typically appearing within 45 minutes. Pledges from the Netherlands (NL) tend to process a bit quicker than those from Germany (DE) or Belgium (BE).
  • Pay by Bank pledges take longer, and can take up to a full day to show up.

If your pledge still hasn’t appeared after this window, please contact us and we’ll look into it.

Escape Games / Your Visit

Your safety and comfort are our absolute priority and leaving the experience is always an option, no questions asked.

Our game masters monitor every step of the experience closely and are trained to recognise when someone needs support. If at any point the experience becomes too much and you would like to stop, simply cross your arms in front of your body and call out “game over”. This universal signal immediately alerts our team, and you will be calmly and swiftly escorted out of the experience.

Please note that once you have left the experience, re-entry is not possible. This is to protect the integrity of the game for the rest of your group.

We want everyone to have an extraordinary time and sometimes that means knowing when to step out. There is no shame in it.

Honestly, this question makes us happy. Because it means you are already thinking about it.

We understand the hesitation. The word “horror” carries a lot of baggage – gore, jumpscares, things leaping out of the dark for no reason other than to make you spill your drink. That is not what we do.

For us, horror is a tool. The most powerful one we have. Used well, it sharpens every sense, makes every detail feel meaningful, and turns a group of people into a team without anyone having to say the word teamwork. Fear, the right kind, in the right doses, makes you present in a way almost nothing else can.

What we build is closer to a psychological thriller than a haunted house. There is atmosphere, tension, and a story that pulls you in. There are moments that will make your heart race. But there are no cheap jumpscares, no gratuitous gore, and no moments that exist purely to shock.

If you have ever been gripped by a tense film, lost yourself in a good thriller, or felt that particular excitement of not knowing what comes next, you are exactly the kind of person we built this for.

Still not sure? Give us a call. We are happy to tell you more about what the experience actually feels like without giving away what makes it special.

There are no real spiders in our rooms. Not one. What you will encounter are carefully crafted visuals, sounds, and theatrical effects that create a powerful sense of atmosphere because that is what this experience is built on. Atmosphere, tension, and story. The creature is a presence, not a protagonist.

If spiders make you uncomfortable but you can handle seeing them in a film or on a screen, you will almost certainly be fine. Most players with mild to moderate arachnophobia tell us afterwards that the emotional journey of the game took over completely and that is exactly what we designed it to do.

If your fear is more severe, we would genuinely love to talk to you before you book. Give us a call and we can tell you a little more about what the experience involves without spoiling what makes it special. We want everyone who walks through our door to have the best possible time, and that conversation costs nothing.
